I direct laboratory animal care and services, provide animal welfare oversight and am the attending veterinarian for the UNM and the Albuquerque VA AAALAC animal research programs. I have extensive veterinary clinical and research experience with a broad range of laboratory and wildlife animal species and numerous types of research programs including: infectious disease, behavior, imaging, immunology, cancer, metabolic, cardiopulmonary, and environmental. I have significant experience and success with continuing quality improvement through implementation of animal preventive medicine and diagnostic programs. I also have extensive experience with facility design to support animal research infrastructure. I teach animal ethics and research biotechnology. I also have an interest in crisis planning and have successful implemented multiple programs accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) for the past 20 years.
